Who: Rei Kurosawa
When: Just before noon
Where:  The Kurosawa/Asou residence
Open to:  Kei Amakura, Miku Hinasaki

Rei held an envelope in her hands as she sat on the livingroom couch. It had been delivered to the house bearing Yuu's name.  Evidently it had come from his long-time friend Kei Amakura. Rei's charcoal eyes burned into the yellow envelope, torn between her sense of guilt and curiousity.

He's dead... he can't read it now.

She finally gave into the nagging feeling in the back of her mind and tore the envelope open.

Dear Yuu,

How are you? Things going alright between yourself and Rei? I wish you the best.

Well, down to business, my nieces Mio and Mayu have come to live with me for a little while. I can't remember if you met them or not, but they're really sweet girls. I let them out for a day so they could go out and see their old playground. Er, I guess that's what I can call it. Anyways, they went out their and got lost during the night.

That was about a day ago. Since then, the girls have completely switched personalities. Mayu's chatting me up every hour of the day, and Mio's become all quiet and reclusive. I can't figure out what's wrong.

By the way, I found an old camera that I think you'd like. There's some old film in it, and I think it'll arrive soon. (Heavy packages take so long!) Doesn't your girlfriend work with film? There's some old film still left in it. Maybe she can develop it.

Your friend,
Kei Amakura

Rei was mildly perplexed by the letter. The woman felt as though she had walked into the middle of a conversation that was already underway. Her brow furrowed and she pursed her lips just slightly. It was all very interesting. Perhaps she should contact Mr.Amakura herself, especially to inform him of Yuu's death. Suddenly, her expression changed. There would be a package arriving soon with that strange camera.

"Maybe I'll stay quiet a little longer." She said in a barely audible voice.

Rei took the letter and folded it to stash it away.

Back at home, Kei had decided to give Yuu a call. It certainly had been a while since they had talked in anything but letters. Finally locating his number under a pile of papers, notes, and various snackfoods, he called up the Asou household.

Rei had just barely settled into her room and was thinking about writing a journal entry when the phone began to ring. She thought about waiting for Miku to answer it, but decided to go ahead and answer it herself. She thudded down the stairs and picked the reciever up. Just a tiny bit out of breath she answered.
"Hello, Kurosawa speaking."

"Oh, hello. You must be Rei. Is Yuu in? I sent him a letter, and I want to make sure he got it." Kei half-laughed, realizing he had never actually talked to his friend's girlfriend.

"Oh..." Rei's voice trailed off, causing an awkward silence. She gritted her teeth for a moment, feeling heat rise to her face. It was still hard to say, still hard to stomach.
"I... Mr. Amakura, Yuu passed away in a car accident... just about a week ago." Her words were forced, almost robotic. "I'm sorry to have not informed you earlier." Rei tried to sound sincere, but was finding it hard to care about Kei's reaction. What could he possibly know about loosing the love of your life?

"O-oh. He did?" Kei sat their for a moment in utter disbelief. How are you supposed to act when one of your best friends has died? He took a deep breath and closed his eyes for a moment to think. "I-I'm terribly sorry for your loss, Miss Kurosawa. Yuu was a good friend friend of mine. I'd like to pay my respects, in some way..."

"Hey, how did you know my name was Amakura?"

Rei's voice caught in her throat as she searched for the right words to use. "You sent a letter for Yuu not too long ago, right? I... saw the envelope and was just thinking about how often Yuu mentioned "Amakura"." She said haltingly. Rei still felt it would be in her best interests to avoid telling the man that she had read the letter that was addressed to Yuu. "If you need help with anything, I'll be glad to help you continue the research that you were both working on." Rei nodded to herself, deeming her vagueness sufficient.

"I DID send a camera over there, along with the letter. He told me that you work with film, right? There's some old film in it, you might be able to develop it. But I'd understand if you didn't want to, if it upset you or something." He sighed and shook his head again, "Wow... it's hard to believe he's dead..."

"A camera." She said, her tone seeming far away and dream like. "I think... that Yuu would want you to be able to finish whatever it was you were working on, so I'll help you however I can. I'll be waiting for it in the mail..." She paused again. "I know that you were close, even though we never met. I suppose Yuu was just the kind of person to not think of something like that as important." Rei almost laughed, remembering how when they had first met, she had thought Yuu may be part of some strange secret society or something because he rarely mentioned friends. Rei got to meet and interact with them on an even more rare basis. "Mr. Amakura, thanks for calling." She added in a slightly awkward

"It's, er, no problem. Well, you're probably a very busy woman, and I have a lot of thinking to do right now, in between Yuu's death and the problems with my nieces, I think I should get going. Call if you get anything interesting. Goodbye, Miss Kurosawa." Kei said.

"I'm home." Miku called out as she let herself into the front door.

Immediately, Ruri came trotting from the sitting room and rubbed itself against her ankles, purring and demanding attention. Miku absently scratched the cat as she balanced on one foot to take off her shoes, camera bag hanging percariously off her shoulder.

"Reeeei, are you home?" she called out when she saw her house mate's shoes in the entry.

Rei looked toward the entryway door. She could hear Miku's voice on the other side. The woman had just been standing at the phone stand, staring at the reciever.

Miku had called her name.

"Miku, I'm here. Welcome home!" She called, going to the door.

Something in Rei wanted to tell Miku everything she had just learned from Kei, but at the same time, she felt as though Miku was burdened enough. The older woman felt rather badly for allowing a lot of the household duties fall on Miku's shoulders since Yuu's death.

Ruri ran out of the crack between the door and the frame, followed by Miku, and looked at Rei as if she expected some sort of reward for bringing the younger woman in.

"Hey, sorry I was out so long. I wanted to drop off some final developments for class. Are you hungry, I can start something." Maiku said in a steady stream, making a miniscule gesture with each statement. She was already walking for the kitchen as she finished talking.

"You don't have...to-" Rei started. She watched Miku making her way into the kitchen anyway. It was always like that.

Ever since Rei had met Miku, she had always sensed some form of deep sadness in her. It comforted her when Yuu passed away, and for some reason continued to do so. She had heard that the girl had lost an important relative, and always assumed that it was the source of that sadness. Rei felt it would be impolite to pry and ask her about it, even though she did wonder. Of course Rei knew that Miku wouldn't mind, and would probably tell her happily.

Today, Rei percieved that that sadness was effecting the small woman more than usual.

"Miku, are... you alright?" She asked gingerly.

"Huh? Oh, yeah, I'm fine." Miku said with a quick smile as she pulled out some dishes to cook with.

"I just ran into an upperclassman at the university I wasn't expecting to, from the senior projects with the professors."
